The Amphora Curtain

A silhouette stolen from the everyday Mediterranean object,- those ancient pots that line every doorstep, the magnificent gardens, the village square. They’ve held oil, olives, flowers, time.

Its palette is drawn from the ground, clay, mud, dust, stone. This ubiquitous form is abstracted and reassembled,- cut, fragmented, and stitched by hand in layers of local linen and hemp. There are echoes of Burri’s stitched combustions, of Fontana’s pierced canvas, of Boro’s intuitive patchwork. Not as reference, but as method: layering, revealing, reducing.

It hangs like a soft sculpture- somewhere between textile and architecture. A statement curtain. A way to divide space, filter light
